U.S. Weekly Cotton Export Sales Up Noticeably
According to USDA's latest weekly cotton summary, during the week ending Feb 3, net Upland sales 111,100 running bales were up noticeably from the previous week, but down 23 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Turkey (24,200 RB), Brazil (14,700 RB), South Korea (13,000 RB, including 7,700 RB switched from unknown destinations), Bangladesh (12,400 RB), and Taiwan (11,500 RB). Decreases were reported for Japan (6,900 RB) and China (3,800 RB). Net sales of 193,700 RB for delivery in 2011/12 were mainly for Pakistan (69,500 RB) Bangladesh (61,700 RB), China (15,900 RB), Mexico (10,000 RB), and Thailand (9,900 RB). Decreases were reported for Vietnam (1,800 RB).
Exports for own account were reported for China (7,600 RB), Malaysia (4,700 RB), and Turkey (3,900 RB). Exports of 479,800 RB--a marketing-year high--were up 12 percent from the previous week and 43 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (147,600 RB), Turkey (89,900 RB), Mexico (56,800 RB), Brazil (36,100 RB), Thailand (28,700 RB), and Indonesia (25,800 RB).
Net American Pima sales of 9,800 RB were down 16 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for India (3,900 RB), Pakistan (2,500 RB), Peru (1,700 RB), and Japan (1,100 RB). Decreases were reported for Switzerland (400 RB). Net sales of 11,900 RB for delivery in 2011/12 were mainly for China (8,900 RB) and Pakistan (2,200 RB). Exports of 15,100 RB were primarily to China (5,500 RB), Japan (4,000 RB), Egypt (1,300 RB), India (1,000 RB), and Thailand (1,000 RB).
