India: New 21 textile parks

The Indian government is to construct 21 new textiles parks over the next 3 years at a cost of Rs. 21 billion (USD 425 million).

Six new parks will be built in Maharashtra, four in Rajasthan, two each in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, one in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Jammu, Kashmir and West Bengal.

The product mix in these parks will include apparel, garments, hosiery and silk, as well as textile processing, technical textiles such as medical textiles, carpets and powerloom facilities.

The new textiles parks are expected to leverage an investment of over Rs. 90 billion (USD 1.820 billion) and provide employment to 400,000 textiles workers.
