China´s Export of Silk Textiles and Garment in 2011

China´s exports of real silk commodities amounted to about US$ 3.54 billion, up 8.55% year-on-year, according to China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles.

The exports of raw silk and silk yarn registered 16,700 tons in 2011, down 14% year-on year, with export value amounting to US$ 687 million, an increase of 5.91% year-on-year; the exports of real silk fabric registered 219 million meters in quantity, down 20.56% year-on-year, and US$ 1.07 billion in value, up 6.36%; the exports of silk made-up goods reached 438 million pieces in quantity, up 101.96% and US$ 1.78 billion in value, up 10.95%.

The top five exporters of real silk commodities are Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shanghai and Sichuan, whose exports totaled US$ 2.94 billion, covering 83.11% of the total.

The top five export markets of China´s silk commodities in 2011 are the United States, India, Japan and Hong Kong. The exports to these markets cover 56.31% of China´s total exports of silk commodities in value term.

In 2011, China´s silk garment exports grew 8.8% from the previous year to US $1.21 billion. However, silk garment export volume surged around 300% to 312 million pieces (sets), due to the rise in exports of low-value innerwear. Average unit price fell 72.8% to only US$3.87 / piece.

The United States, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy and Germany are top five destinations for China´s silk garment export. The exports to the US stood at US$ 460 million, to Hong Kong US$122 million, to Japan US$97 million, to Italy US$68 million and to Germany US$62 million, with variation respectively at +0.21%, +13.1%, +2.3%, -14.19% and +19.48% compared to the previous year.
