Wool industry uses social media to reach 20-35 year olds (United States Of America)
Social media sites like facebook and twitter can be successfully used to market wool to 20 to 35 year olds, according to Mr. Chris Wilcox, Executive Director of the National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia.
Speaking on the sidelines of the International Wool Textile Organization’s annual congress in New York, Mr. Wilcox said Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has been using social media sites like facebook and twitter to promote wool directly to young consumers and retailers.
AWI runs competitions on social media sites about topics like ‘Why we love wool’ and people from all over the world participate in it, majority of them being in the age group of 20 to 35.
Mr. Wilcox also gave example of retailers in the US who use their own programmes to promote their product ranges on facebook and twitter.
Marketing through social media sites is all about developing the interest and creating excitement online, so that people go to the outlets to touch, feel and really see wool. They can, however, buy either from the store or online.
