Shanghai Apparel Retail Sales Value - 8.7% in May (China)
In May 2012 , According to Shanghai Apparel Association, apparel retail sales volume in Shanghai top 10 department stores was 0.949 million pieces(sets), increasing 2.1% m/m(down 1.7%y/y) by 20,000 pieces (sets).In May.2012 apparel products sales value was CNY366million, decreasing 8.7% m/m (up 1.5% y/y) by CNY35,000. Average price in May was CNY385.3 /piece (set), down 10.6% m/m, up 3.2% y/y.
Women’s apparel: UNIQLO occupied absolute advantage
In May 2012, according to the average price ranking, the brand "MingWangYiZu" on the top of the list for the first time, average sales price was CNY 15,199 /piece( set); LUXMAN ,whose price increased by 40%,jumped to the second position, average sales price was CNY 9724 / pieces ( sets), increasing 42.3% m/m; M TSUBOMI entered the top three, average sales price was CNY 8451 / pieces ( sets), increasing 56% m/m; MALIYISI ranked the fourth, average sales price was CNY 5556 / pieces ( sets), decreasing 0.9% m/m;AHNSIL entered the top five for the first time, average sales price was CNY 4479/ piece ( set).
Looking further into the ranking of women’s apparel brands in terms of sales value in May 2012. UNIQLO occupied the first position for the first time by absolute advantage. It reported the sales value reached CNY6.796 million. L’ORFEO increased 28.6% m/m reached CNY3.971 million, dropped one ranking and claimed second.VERO MODA decreased 23.1% m/m and claimed third this month, sales value was CNY2.354 million. The sales value of ONLY was CNY2.259 million, decreasing 21.4% m/m. ONLY claimed fourth this month. ESPRIT was CNY1.952 million, decreasing 26.1% m/m, claimed fifth this month.

Looking further into the ranking of men’s casual wear brands in terms of sales value in May 2012. Tommy Hilfiger began to play an important role and occupied the top ranking for the first time. It reported the sales value reached CNY1.668 million in May.2012, up 19.7% m/m; LACOSTE reported CNY1.002 million and claimed second, down 10.6% m/m. JACK JONES claimed third with CNY0.969 million, down 36.0% m/m. WOLSEY was CNY0.934 million, claimed fourth for the first time .ESPRIT with CNY0.719 million , decreasing 41.0% m/m, from third lastmonth fell to fifth this month.
