Esquel begins construction of apparel factory in Vietnam (Hong Kong)
The Hong Kong based Esquel Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium cotton shirts, has started building its second apparel factory in Vietnam.
The new garment unit is being constructed at a cost of US$ 25 million in the Luong Son Industrial Zone, located in the northern Vietnamese province of Hoa Binh.
Esquel’s existing apparel manufacturing unit in Vietnam’s Binh Duong province employs 1,000 persons.
The new garment manufacturing unit would be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, Esquel is building a factory that has a capacity to churn out 7.2 million garments annually.
When the first phase becomes operational in November this year, it will create employment opportunities for 3,000 persons.
The second phase will have an annual capacity to produce 11.52 million garments. It is scheduled to begin in 2017.
All apparels made at the Vietnamese factory will be supplied to Esquel’s international clients such as Ralph Lauren, Gap, Lacoste, Liz Clairborne, Tommy Hilfiger, Giordano, Nike and M&S.
Besides Vietnam, Esquel has apparel manufacturing facilities in Malaysia, China, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.
