Wanzhou District Becomes Largest Cotton Textile Production Base in Chongqing (China)
It is reported from the inspection and quarantine bureau of Wanzhou District in Chongqing that in the January-April period of this year, Wanzhou District imported 7,590 tons of cotton, which is worth of US$ 21.96 million, up respectively 58.9% and 55.81% over the same period of last year. It has become the largest cotton textile production base in Chongqing.
The suppliers of Wanzhou´s imported cotton include not only traditional cotton exporters such as the United States, India and Australia, but also Egypt, South Africa and other African countries. The increasing import of cotton indicates the fast development of local cotton textile industry.
In the past few years, by merchandizing, the textile and garment industry has been developing rapidly in Wanzhou. Last year, the textile and garment industry in Wanzhou generated an industrial output of CNY 4.27 billion, up 20.5% year-on-year. In the first quarter of this year, the industrial output valued at CNY 1.3 billion, up 26.8% year-on-year.
