Taiwan becomes third biggest textiles exporter to Vietnam
Next to China and South Korea, Taiwan stood to be the third largest textiles supplier to Vietnam during January-August 2012.
Citing the Bureau of Foreign Trade statistics, the Taiwan Textile Federation said Taiwan exported textiles worth US$ 257 million to Vietnam during January-August 2012.
While China stood to be the biggest supplier of textiles to Vietnam during the period representing a 29.9 percent share of Vietnam market, South Korea stood second with 18.8 percent share, while Taiwan followed next with a 12.7 percent share.
The three leading suppliers jointly contributed around 61.4 percent of Vietnam’s overall textile exports for January to August.
Indicative of a year-on-year rise of 13 percent, China’s textile exports to Vietnam for the period grew to US$ 606 million, while that of South Korea grew by 4.4 percent to US$ 379 million, the federation said.
Besides China, South Korea and Taiwan, other countries including Japan, the US and Hong Kong also supply textiles to Vietnam. However, their share is not significant, the federation said.
