SPINEXPO: Nomadic Cultures Inspire Spinners for Spring/Summer 2014
International exhibition for fibres, yarns for clothing and upholstery, knitwear and knitted fabrics140 high-end exhibitors from 15 countriesTrends and marketing information–spinning & knitwear
Our first newsletter in 2013 invites you to consider new products, new marketing concepts, and new ways of doing business, along with inspiring you with news of the season.。
The influence of simpler, nomadic lifestyles and wandering cultures is evident in the spinners’offerings this season, expressing a preference for raw materials culled from the traditional Silk Route and other melting pots.
At Ningbo Consinee Group, new blends of silk and cashmere are appropriately named: Samarkand, Bhutan, and Kashgar.“Linen blends, Luxor and Giza, reflect exotic and mystical Egypt; while bamboo blends Jimbaran and Seminyak bring to mind the craftsmanship and spirituality of Bali; and our pure silks, Ginza and Kyoto, mirror the purity and minimalism of the Japanese aesthetic,”explains Jane Sked, the company’s designer.
Silk is also at the heart of Cariaggi’s Bon Voyage story, a“voyage of discovery that takes us back to the wonderful landscapes of the Silk Route.”
Filpucci’s Nomads collection incorporates fine gauge linen with cotton or silk; while casual tapes and rag yarns in natural cotton blends evoke Gauguin’s Route, according to Sergio Locoli, General Manager Filpucci Zhangjiagang..
At Yarns & Colors, Spring/Summer 2014 takes its direction from gypsies and modern-day nomads, with materials such as jute, ramie, and festive colored silks.
This all reflects the demand SPINEXPO™marketing team is registering from visitors coming to the show. Brands have already expressed their needs for the coming season and will come to the fair looking for nep, loop and fancy yarns, linen yarns with a smooth hand feel, or silk/cotton Taiwan style, silk/cashmere and mulberry silk yarns. They also mention a need for yarns with a dry hand, such as Japanese Maruisho Hotta type of yarns, bright silk cotton, viscose/paper and viscose cotton.
Cashmere’s Noble Sisters are the focus at SPINEXPO™fibres marketing trend area and mohair. Soft and silky, naturally absorbent and therefore cool in the warmer months, these luxury animal fibers are ideal for light weight knitwear or elegant woven fabrics.
A special display area will introduce visitors to the history of both fibres, with focus on what can be made out of each fibre, from yarns spinning to woven and knitted fabrics used for garments or upholstery, accessories, toys and so on. Conceived as a live library, the display area will be located near the spinners’library and the trend lab corner.
Alpaca fibre is similar to sheep’s wool, but is hypoallergenic as it has no lanolin. It is stronger than wool, with a partially hollow core that provides thermo-regulation.
The fibers of huacayo alpaca have a natural crimp, making it ideal for knitting. Alpaca fibres come in some 22 natural shades, from true black through browns, fawns and greys; but white is predominant, and dyes well in a large range of colors.
Passion International, one of China’s best-known cashmere companies, has contracted with Peru’s INCA TOPS and KUNA to promote alpaca yarns and garments. According to Bill Zhang, Passion International’s President,“Both companies are keen to promote their products through Passion’s channels, because everyone knows cashmere and alpaca are sisters.”
Made from the hair of the angora goat, mohair is prized for its high lustre and sheen, while being naturally elastic, crease-resistant, and thermo-regulating, keeping the wearer warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike wool, mohair’s scales are only partially formed; this means that mohair is less likely to felt, and dyes extremely well with exceptional depth of color.
Today’s fine-gauge mohair yarns are being developed into sheer, light weight knits and silk-blend suitings for spring and summer. Topline (Ningbo) Textile, part of the Consinee Group, is the world’s largest producer of fine-gauge mohair yarns.
These luxury fibres will also be included in the collections of SPINEXPO™exhibitors such as Meng Yin Seorim Woolen Company, Shilead, Best Shan Company, and many others.
SPINEXPO™Yarns & Knitwear Trend Area continues its lead under the banner“EVOLUTIONS’
With a new design for the central and main trend area presenting more knitwear garments and using new seamless technology and new stitches, SPINEXPO™Trend Area will feature the work of an increased number of design stylists and studios.
The SPINEXPO™styling team believes in embracing change and newness without looking backwards, looking ahead to a new global lifestyle melting the best of European past with the best of Asian future.
In today’s lifestyle there is no right or wrong: we want to move along with the crowd but still stand out. Nothing is as clearly defined as it was in the past, the boundaries have blurred between cultures, communities, the sexes and what is real or virtual.
Yarn is evolving by becoming of equal importance to fabrication for spring summer 2014, whether it is a novelty effect creating the surface interest or color effect, or the refinement and quality allowing for the structure to shine, the message of yarn being the hero is the same. SPINEXPO™has absorbed and responded to this movement to show an evolution of colours through their tonal families, each reflecting an aspect of this new era for 2014.We express this as individual evolutions we see around us…….
Colours are worked in themes, and speak of nature’s yellows and ecological greens, cultural blues and recreational chambrays, digital neutrals and homely browns, ceremonial oranges and romantic pinks, each group having its own optical and construction aspects, illustrating upcoming fashion trends in spinning and knitting.
