Pakistan's textile export declined (Pakistan)

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released the import and export data in the fiscal year of Jul, 2011-Jun, 2012. The export presented decline while import increase.

The textile export value dropped from 13.78 to 12.35bln USD, a fall of 10.38% year-on-year. Besides, textile export’s contribution to the total export declined owing to grim energy crisis and decreasing domestic demand.

Export volumes of high added value products showed the negative growth, such as knitwear, bedding, towel and apparel. Meantime, raw cotton export amounted 462mln USD, up 26.6% year-on-year and tents, canvas and tarpaulin also saw increase to 98.80mln USD, while other textile products export declined 6-64% to different extent.

In detail, cotton yarn slipped to 1.79bln USD, down 18.50%, cotton fabric down 6.20% to 2.45bln USD, knitwear down 14.40% to 1.97bln USD, bedding down 16% to 1.75bln USD, apparel down 7.8% to 1.63bln USD. Art, silk and synthetic textile products export decreased 10.80% to 0.542bln USD and finished products (excluding towel and bedding) down 6.40% to 0.5847bln USD.
